My father constantly called the police to arrest me –Oriste Femi

Oritse Femi

Rave of the moment artiste, Oritse Femi has really ‘arrived’ no wonder he was beaming with smiles on Sunday as D’Banj and Avatar, an entertainment company that recently signed him, gave him a Range Rover Evogue worth about N24m.Mind you this was before the accident. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the singer said that his joy was not complete as he would have loved his father to witness his achievement. He lost his father in February this year.

He said that although his father loved him very much, he was not in support of his music career. To dissuade him from singing, his father constantly got him arrested by policemen.
Oritse Femi said, “My father wanted me to become an engineer like him, so he did not support my music career. He knew I am talented but when I started music, people who got involved were seen as miscreants. Although I am from a polygamous family, I was one of my father’s favourites. He loved me a lot and he used to advise me when I was young. He did not want me to go astray in life.
“He did so many things to dissuade me from pursuing my career. Back then whenever I got back home from a show, it was certain that he would ask policemen to arrest me. “Everybody in Ajegunle knew that my father often asked policemen to arrest me. It got to a point when the policemen in the area were tired of arresting me. So, whenever they were asked to pick me up, they would release me the following morning. When my father realised that the police were not helpful, he built a guard room in our compound because of me. I thank God that at the end of the day, I was able to convince him. I am really pained because now that I have made it big in the industry, he is dead. I wish he were alive to witness this but I cannot blame God.”
The singer who is mostly spotted with the Koko master, D’banj, hinted that they would be working together on several projects. He further told Saturday Beats that D’banj promised to help him secure some endorsement deals with some multinational companies.
“I am working with D’banj because he has a lot of influence in the music industry both in Nigeria and abroad. He told me that he is working on some endorsement deals with some multinational companies and he would like to involve me in them. He said that he feels comfortable opening up to me. Don’t be surprised when you see that I have various endorsement deals. Right now we have a partnership between him and my management team,” he said.
