Its not news that the students of the University of Lagos again protested on the current state of things in school, ranging from the price of commodities, unavailability of electricity supply and water in the hostels.
The University of Lagos Student Union (ULSU) decided to protest on wednesday and the protest continued on thursday because the V.C was not available to address the students.
Another part of the protest is the terming hooliganism that is being displayed by the protesting students, some of the students visited Unilag Ventures, manufacturers of 'Unilag Water ' destroyed bags of water, throwing and smashing them away, meanwhile anyone that tries to take pictures is harrassed or beaten, a student tried to take pictures from his room upstairs was seen by protesters, they came up to his room to beat him up, the joint effort of his roommates and friends saved him.
It was reported that even the president of the student union (MOH) was seen trying to beatup people who tried to take pictures.
Another show of hooliganism was forcing the female students out of their hostels, irrespective of what they wore, some females tying wrapper without brushed teeth and they were forced out to join the protest by male students brandishing sticks as weapons, I used to think protest was by choice until today.
Students also reportedly climbed into the power station forcing the officials to turn off power including the senate building, imagine how many people might be trapped in the elevators? Its not an uncommon thing for non students to join protests and go against the code of peaceful protest, the union should also realize that in the midst of all these hooliganism the purpose of the protest may be lost.
